In his key-note address, the High Commissioner Dr. Mohammad Faisal said that the Jammu & Kashmir dispute was an international issue and not a bilateral between Pakistan and India. He highlighted that the human rights abuses in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu & Kashmir (IIOJK) were persistent and worsening and were not matters to be left to any bilateral agendas. He referred to the reports of Genocide Watch and independent investigations by renowned UK law firm Stokes & White about the genocide and war crimes inflicted by the Indian occupation forces upon innocent people of IIOJK.

The High Commissioner stated that extrajudicial killings, torture, use of pellet guns, enforced disappearances, arbitrary detentions, rape and abduction of youth were the grave crimes documented and proven against Indian forces. He informed that India was taking systematic measures to illegally change the demography of IIOJK through 5th August, 2019 revocation of special status of Jammu & Kashmir.

Dr. Mohammad Faisal urged that the international community must ramp up political pressure on India to immediately lift the lockdown, stop human rights abuses, release all political prisoners, repeal draconian laws, remove restrictions on media and allow free access to UN missions.

British Parliamentarians, in their remarks, unanimously agreed that the people of IIOJK must exercise their right to self determination, as promised to them by the UN Security Council Resolutions. The MPs urged upon the UK government to put pressure on India to put an end to the grave human rights abuses and to resolve the Jammu & Kashmir dispute as per the UN Security Council Resolutions and wishes of the Kashmiri people. The British Parliamentarians expressed continued commitment to keep highlighting the Jammu & Kashmir dispute in UK and at the international fora.
