Letters of Administration and Succession Certificates
After the death of a family member, legal heirs can apply for a Letter of Administration (for immovable property) or a Succession Certificate (for movable assets). Applications go through the Succession Facilitation Units run by the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), subject to the legal requirements and service availability.
Eligible legal heirs in Pakistan or abroad may be able to complete biometric verification at a NADRA registration centre or a participating Pakistani mission, depending on availability at that location.
How to apply
- Start the application. Submit the application with the applicant’s National Identity Number, the deceased person’s death certificate and National Identity Number, and, where required, an authorisation letter from the legal heirs allowing you to apply on their behalf.
- List the heirs and assets. Give details of all legal heirs and of the deceased person’s movable and immovable assets.
- Verify the heirs. The legal heirs named in the application complete biometric verification at a designated NADRA registration centre or another authorised facility.
- Public notice. NADRA publishes a notice inviting objections from anyone with a legitimate claim.
- Certificate issued. If no objections arrive within 14 days of the notice and all other requirements are met, the Succession Certificate or Letter of Administration may be issued.
For eligibility, required documents, fees and service availability, see the official NADRA Succession Facilitation website. Please check it for the latest requirements before you apply.
