London (21 November 2024) : A Rich tribute was paid to iconic poet Faiz Ahmad Faiz on the eve of his 40th death anniversary, for this, an event jointly organised by Pakistan High Commission London & Urdu Markaz London.
Many British Pakistanis including writers, scholars, poets and students had gathered at Pakistan High Commission London to commemorate the iconic poet, died on 20 November 1984 at the age of 73, leaving behind a profound legacy that continues to resonate with generations worldwide. He was one of the most influential poets of the 20th century. His work will always be remembered, and he will remain alive in our hearts.
The event was also meant to promote Urdu language and to connect the young British Pakistanis with their language, culture & literature.
Recitals and excerpts from the celebrated works of Faiz Ahmed Faiz such as Dast-e-Saba, Zindan Nama, and Naqsh-e-Faryadi were read, ghazals were sung by the poet’s enthusiasts and fans.
Dr. Javed Sheikh, Chairman Urdu Markaz London thanked Pakistan High Commission London for supporting the event. He also presented a copy of his work on Faiz Ahmed Faiz to the Deputy High Commissioner Haseeb bin Aziz.
